Hey girl. We love you, and you should love you too! Everyone deserves self-love and self-care, and we want to talk about it. Let's dig into what beauty means to us, and and what body positivity has done for our confidence. We're so proud that women of all shapes, colors and sizes are coming together to support each other and show that beauty comes in endless forms.
Beauty in Today's World
Throughout time, beauty has meant many different things. Webster's Dictionary says beauty is "the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit". To us, that means a multitude of things; and I think people today are realizing that too.
In 2019, beauty is more than being a size 2 and having a perfectly symmetrical face; it's about being beautiful inside and out; being authentic; being original; having quirks and embracing them. Being happy, confident and healthy is our definition of "beauty." In music, fashion and TV, beauty standards are changing — and we say, without a doubt, for the better. Songs, talkshows, celebrity social posts, news stations, marches. There are people out everywhere talking about the different forms of beauty; all in an effort to empower women with own their own unique power of being female!
Our List of Non-Negotiable Acts of Self Care
1 — Get at least 7 hours of sleep every night. Sleep makes you feel good, look good and function at the top of your game. Don't miss out on what we think is the most enjoyable act of self love.
2 — Drink at least 6 glasses of water a day (AT LEAST). Drinking water makes you (or us, anyway) feel invincible and helps your body in so many vital ways! Flushes toxins and waste from the body, gives you energy, helps hydrate your skin, lubricates the joints... and the list could go on forever!
3 — Get outside. Stepping out into nature is one of the simplest and fastest ways to feel good. Being in the outdoors reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, helps with depression, and promotes a better night's sleep. What more could you ask for?
4 — Schedule time for you. Whether that's giving yourself an hour to watch your favorite show, read a chapter of your latest book, go for a stroll, adhere to your skin care routine. or meditate... give yourself "you" time to do what you like and reflect on where you want to head.
5 — Nourish your body. Feeding yourself the right foods benefits you in more ways than perhaps any other. Balancing that with healthy treat snacks is important too! We have to remember to treat ourselves. We deserve it, right?
6 — Take care of your skin. Your skin is your body's largest organ. And beautiful, healthy skin is one thing that can give anyone mega confidence! Everyone can benefit from a glowy mug. You'll not only look good, but you'll feel at the top of your game.
7 — Reward yourself. Pat yourself on the back, go for a swim or surf in the ocean, or buy those shoes you've been eyeing for months when you have small victories. Reward yourself with a bubble bath or face mask when you need a little pick me up.
8 — Try something different. We are all about making small changes to better ourselves. That could be something as simple as sleeping on the other side of the bed, to taking a different route to work. Either way, mix things up and try new things. We like to do this every few weeks.
9 — Move for at least 30 minutes each day. Whether it's going on a walk, attending a fitness class or going to the gym, just be active. For 30 minutes. Each and every day. Your body will thank you, and mental health will too!
10 — Confront negative thoughts on paper. Write down doubts about yourself and negative self-talk. Then, write down what is true, what your insecurities are, what you're capable of, and what you can conquer. Make short and long term goals so you can track your positivity upswing throughout the weeks and months to come!
Body Positivity & Tips for Feeling Beautiful
◇ As soon as you're about to criticize yourself, stop and think if you would say that to someone else. Be your best friend and be kinder to yourself.
◇ Don't put anyone's body down. Putting people down only makes you feel bad in the long run, don't rely on anyone else for your boost, especially when it's negativity.
◇ Point out the things you love about yourself. Look in the mirror and tell yourself what you love about you.
◇ Weight doesn't mean as much as you think it does. It is just one small detail in YOU and everything you have to offer the world, stop dwelling on it.
◇ Learn how to take and embrace compliments. People say positive things because they genuinely think it, appreciate it and believe it.
◇ Set goals that have nothing to do with how you look. Finding happiness in non cosmetic places will help with like long happiness. Never stop setting goals for yourself.
◇ Surround yourself with positivity. Try to say negative words less and replace them with positive words. Promote good vibes!
◇ Get off Instagram and don't compare yourself to unrealistic social media. Everyone knows that social media is a place where people post what they want you to see in them, not the real them. So stop thinking you have to look and act they way they do.
◇ Tell yourself thank you! You do a lot for others and yourself and you deserve to be thanked.
◇ REALIZE THAT SELF WORTH HAS LITTLE TO DO WITH YOUR BODY, AND ALL TO DO WITH YOUR MIND. Be remembered for the amazing person you are and the amazing things you do, that's what really matters and what this world really needs. Focus on those things and happiness will come to you.
◇ Fake it till' you make it. That is soooo true. When I am feeling like I am lacking confidence, I just act that way I want to feel and... wow I soon after actually start feeling "really" confident. I didn't change anything about my appearance, just the way I carried myself, and that makes a world of a difference.
